People Watching
I'm a people watcher. Not in a creepy way, more like in a "everybody has their own unique story and sometimes it's illustrated through their actions/outward appearance" way. The other evening while at a festival, I was looking around me and saw the usual stories walking around: Shy guy in the friend zone, Too good for anybody group of teen girls...then I saw it. Them. A small family of four that seemed to have came out for the evening of good, free family fun. They sat by themselves, a good bit away from anybody else. The music was blaring and the two children of the family were dancing. They ate festival food and laughed and appeared to enjoy themselves. Other festival goers seemed to avoid them. The family didn't care. It was obvious they didn't come from money but it was also clear that they didn't care what others thought about them. This made me smile. Far too many people live their lives in a way where they are constantly seeking approval from their peers. They feel they have to keep up appearances just to be accepted in this world. I say screw that. If I have to prove to you my worth then I don't need you in my life. This family seemed quite happy with what they have which says a lot compared to all of these other people walking the earth with so much material stuff yet are extremely unhappy. It was also refreshing to see they were raising their kids up this way. Riches can do you no good. Be happy with what you have, who you have and who you are.
